Avifauna renews

Beech Leaf With Blur

In Avifauna we are busy realizing a new one gbird aviary. In this aviary of more than 2000 square meters delusion visitors themselves straks on the African savanna. The main inhabitants Dealer our Rüppellsgieren, but also other animals will find their new home here. From the African hut you have a beautiful view of this impressive population.

Hope for new growth

The Rüppells vultures are an endangered species. Avifauna currently has a population of 16 birds, which can grow into a colony of 20 vultures in the new aviary. They can build their nests in the rock walls and we therefore expect to welcome new arrivals here. This makes us an important pivot in the EAZA conservation program for this species. The nests will be equipped with cameras so that students and hopefully visitors can closely monitor the rearing of the young.

Other residents

Naturally, other iconic birds of the African savannah will also have a place in the aviary, such as a pair of secretary birds and a pair of southern hornbills. We are also investigating whether we can also add a mammal. In addition to the aviary, there will be an enclosure for meerkats, the inhabitants of the dry savannah and semi-desert in southern Africa.

In short: a surprising, new attraction that brings the African savannah to life and where a colorful group will take up residence. The new vulture aviary is expected to be ready before the summer of 2025. Will you come and have a look soon? In the meantime, you can follow the construction via our socials, the newsletter or the news items on this website.
