On Thursday morning, our zookeeper Leonie was looking very strange when she suddenly saw something hanging on the fence. It was a bee colony! The swarm had clumped around the fence. They do this during their search for a new home. From here, the queen and her bees look for a new place to live.

To give the bees a helping hand, we have engaged beekeeper Sam. He shoveled the bees into a hive and went looking for the queen. Because the swarm remained in the hive as a clump, this indicates the presence of the queen. After half an hour all the bees were in the hive and we gave it a spot next to our other beehive in the park. This hive has only been there for 1,5 weeks and is already full of honey and new bees!

The next day our own colleague Lieke, who is also a beekeeper, was ready with a new hive for the bees. Exciting, will the bees have stayed in their temporary home? Sure! The bees were still in the hive like a lump and have even started making honeycomb. With one tap on the top of the temporary hive, the clump of bees fell onto their new 'home'. Crawled with some smoke the bees quickly in the hive. Now it's up to the bees to build a new life here!

Due to the varied planting in our park, we attract not only bees, but also other wild insects and animals. With this Avifauna wants to maintain and stimulate the native biodiversity.
