This remarkably large, blue pigeon has bright red eyes and legs. Young crown pigeons already closely resemble the parents. They are still a lot smaller and their crest still has to grow considerably, but they already have blue plumage. In our zoo you can admire the Victoria crown pigeons in the Tropenhal and in the Asia aviaries. It is one of the many types of pigeons in our collection.
The Victoria Crowned Pigeon is found on the northern part of the island of New Guinea and on some surrounding islands. They mainly inhabit the tropical forests there, but are also observed in swamp areas and open plains. At the end of the day they always go back to the woods.
