Fight for the best spot

Steller's sea eagles live around the Sea of Okhotsk, an area off the east coast of Russia. In the summers the birds are in the north of this area and in the winter they migrate south. They live near lakes, banks and rivers and in coastal areas. In cold winters they move around the waters in large groups. Then there is the hardest fighting for the best place.

The Steller's sea eagle is threatened by climate change, among other things. Rising water levels make it more difficult for them to catch food. You will understand that we in Avifauna are therefore extra happy with every young that is born. The pair of Steller's sea eagles that live in our zoo have produced many offspring since 2003; almost 30!
