To get and stay in the air, such a large bird of course also needs large wings. The Dalmatian pelican has a wingspan of no less than 3,5 meters! That is almost a record, because only the giant albatross beats it, with wings that are about 20 centimeters longer. The name of the Dalmatian pelican is not a bad choice, by the way, with the 'wild hairs' they have!
In the wild, the Dalmatian pelican has a large range, stretching from southeastern Europe as far as China. This species is found in both fresh and salt water areas, ranging from lakes and rivers, to lagoons and coastal areas. In our animal park you will find the Dalmatian pelicans at the large pond, at the back of the bird park. It is not the only pelican species in Avifauna, by the way. Brown pelicans can also be seen during the bird demonstrations, which impress with their special thrust dives!

This pelican is a very imposing appearance. With an average weight of 11,5 kg (maximum 15 kg!). hij considered the heaviest flying bird in the world. Not very surprising, because in a standing position they are between 160 and 180 cm high. That's not so tall as an average adult! With such a size, of course, a lot has to be eaten. Dalmatian pelican eet anyway over 1 kilogram fish per day!
