Experiences

You come along in our parkagainst special birds and mammals. Walk through their natural habitat, watch and learn during the feeding talks or visit the unique bird demonstration. There is plenty to experience!

We invest in the protection of flora and fauna in various ways, both in our park and far beyond our national borders. That social meaning is anchored in everything we do.

Nature conservation

Vogelpark Avifauna continuously invests knowledge and resources in nature conservation projects. Every year we support in various projects, both in our own environment and in vulnerable nature areas elsewhere in the world.

Avifauna renews

To ensure the well-being of our animals and attractive to remain for visitors, we must constantly renew our animal park. We translate the latest scientific insights into our approach and care of the animals.

Careers

As an employer, Avifauna plays an important role in the region. Hundreds of young people found their first (holiday) job with us. Specialized professionals know where to find us from all over the country, as do many volunteers and interns Besides.

the origin

On the estate of Mr. Van den Brink started as a hobby Vogelpark Avifauna. Op May 17, 1950 opened it very first bird park in the world officially are deur.

We have special BSO arrangements for childcare organizations. Nice, such a different activity!

Birdlife is before and after, the municipalities of Alphen aan den Rijn, Kaag & Braassem and Nieuwkoop active as NME partner.

OUR NATURE

Norway maple

The Norway maple originated in Scandinavia, but can be found all over Europe. They are tall trees that are characterized in autumn by their beautiful autumn colours. This maple has a fairly low tree crown, which often starts at a height of two meters. The large crown not only offers a lot of shade, but also a lot of shelter for birds and insects.

Stradivarius

The wood of the Norway maple is light in color and fairly hard. It is therefore used for furniture, kitchens and even musical instruments. This tree is therefore linked to a special history. The Italian violin maker Antonius Stradivarius used wood from Norway maple for the backs of his violins.

Stradivarius is the world's most famous violin maker and his instruments are regarded as the purest and best violins. One of his violins from 1721, called 'Lady Blunt', fetched no less than 2011 million euros at auction in 11. The exact reason for that unique sound is still being investigated, but for Stradivarius only the quality counted. That is why he has used the wood of Norway maple in all his violins.

NATURE EXPERIENCE

Avifauna has traditionally always invested a lot in the planting of the park, but its character has changed. Where the green used to be mostly had the function of an ornamental garden, we now give more space to nature. A visit to the park becomes real nature experience. That approach is relatively new to Avifauna, but fully fits in with our mission to protect nature and promote biodiversity. WThey are determined not to sit helplessly on the sidelines as nature impoverishes or even disappears. Will you help us with that?
