This year a real first took place in our park. For the first time, a white-headed vulture couple is raising not 1 but 2 young at the same time! This is special, because the original litter size never contains more than 1 young. The pair of white-headed vultures is now experienced in raising youngsters and that is why the possibilities have been looked at. For example, this couple accepts the presence of the caretakers and we have a view of the nest. This makes it possible to monitor how the young are doing and whether they both get enough to eat without disturbing the animals.
The young vultures are doing very well and the parents are busy raising the little ones. These are steps in the right direction to save this vulture species from extinction. Avifauna, as coordinator of the European conservation program for white-headed vultures, is very happy with that!
