The eggs hatched on April 18 and 20. Initially this seemed to go very well and both parent birds showed good behavior towards the young and were very caring.
Unfortunately, on the morning of April 21, the first young was seen lifeless on the nest, after which the parent birds started feeding this young to the other young. In itself, this behavior is not strange for birds of prey when a young one dies, after all, in nature nothing is wasted.
However, what happened next is aberrant behavior as the second young was then killed and eaten by the parent birds. For the time being, we assume that it is simply due to a lack of experience and we hope that they will simply nest again next season so that they can do it again better.
