I am proud to say, Johan – team leader Green & Nature at Vogelpark Avifauna, announce that we officially be a partner of Green Circle Bee LandscapeThis initiative is committed to strengthening pollinator networks in South Holland, and I'm pleased to lead this initiative on behalf of Avifauna, driven by my passion for birds and nature.
Avifauna official partner of Green Circle Bee Landscape
In the heart of Alphen aan den Rijn Avifauna has always prioritized biodiversity. With our diverse, bee-friendly plantings, we attract insects, birds, and other animals, creating a vibrant connection between experience and ecology. Since we began monitoring wildlife, we've identified over 1.200 species—thanks in part to visitors, local residents, and specialists.
The collaboration with Green Circle Bee Landscape strengthens this work: through bee-friendly planting, sophisticated monitoring, and community involvement, we contribute to a robust bee network around Leiden. In the past three years alone, the number of bee species in the region has increased by 34%.

Biodiversity and bee-friendly projects in Avifauna
What we do at Avifauna:
No pesticides more, so that insects can flourish undisturbed.
Bee-friendly planting In the park; this fall we will open a model bee garden as an inspiring example for visitors.
Educational programs in schools: Students learn the role of bees and insects in the ecosystem.
Management of nature reserves outside the park, with an eye for biodiversity.
More information about the national project can be found on the website of Green Circle Bee Landscape.
Why a bee-friendly landscape is so important:
A bee-friendly landscape not only enhances the pollination of food crops but also creates a healthy ecological base for insects, birds, and small animals. The result: a more colorful and vibrant landscape for residents and visitors alike.
