The pair of Steller's Sea Eagles, both 22 years old, came to Avifauna in 2023. They originate from a confiscation by the Belgian authorities, who approached Avifauna with the request to take in these birds. In their first year at Avifauna, the pair started nesting and had two young, which unfortunately did not survive. This year, the female also laid two eggs, one of which hatched after an incubation period of about 35 days. It has been an exciting time and it seemed to be going so well. Unfortunately, the young died on April 17th. The second egg was infertile and was removed. We are looking forward to the next breeding season!
